As the 1st of May is National Truffle Day, we thought we would share some truffle trivia!
The history of the chocolate truffle
Legend has it that in the 1920’s France, an apprentice in training mistakenly poured hot cream into a bowl of chocolate chunks rather than the bowl of sugar and eggs he was meant to. As the mixture hardened he found he could mould the chocolate paste into bumpy balls. He coated the in coco powder, and, due to their uncanny resemblance to the luxurious black truffle fungus found in the French Perigord region, named them “Truffles”. The name has stuck and they are now one of the most luxurious chocolates around many with different flavours and outer coatings………yum!
We are a big fan of truffles and include a variety of them in our range of hampers and gift towers, as well as offering some individually.
